ETIP PV Newsletter - October 2024
|
The ETIP PV Steering Committee gathered last week in Munich to elect the new Chairs for the period 2024-2026, discuss the current activities and visit the Wacker Chemie factory in Burghausen.
On October 21nd, Rutger Schlatmann, head of the division Solar Energy at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin fuer Materialien und Energie (HZB), and professor at HTW Berlin, was re-elected as the ETIP PV Chair. He is supported by David Moser, the Head of the Research Group Photovoltaic Energy Systems at the Institute for Renewable Energy (Eurac Research), as well as Nora Adam, R&D Ecological Engineer at BayWa r.e.Solar Projects GmbH, elected as the Vice-Chairpersons of the ETIP PV Steering Committee.
Rutger Schlatmann, expressed his optimism for the Platform: “I am honoured by the continued trust that the ETIP PV Steering Committee has expressed by my re-election. First and foremost, on the ETIP PV agenda for the coming years will be the planned Co-Programmed European Partnership (CEP) for Photovoltaics. This presents an excellent opportunity for our sector and for PV in general, with its still vast and untapped innovation potential. A second crucial ETIP PV task is to support the PV sector and the European Commission, in reshoring a significant part of the PV value chain to Europe, especially on the ´upstream´ side. Now more than ever, we need a vigorously growing, resilient European PV market, served by a strong European PV industry”.
Wacker Chemie factory visit
The next day, the Steering Committee members had the opportunity to visit Wacker Chemie factory, the leading manufacturer of polysilicon and a pioneer in silicones in Burghausen located 130 km from Munich.
Co-Programmed partnership parallel event - Summary
The highlight of ETIP PV activities at EU PVSEC this year is the parallel event aiming to present the Co-Programmed Partnership in establishment with the European Commission and collect suggestions from the participants on the priority topics for the PV sector in the upcoming Horizon Europe calls.
The discussions turned around 3 key topics and the output will serve as basis for the Strategic R&I Agenda of the Co-Programmed Partnership:
- Industrialisation of Innovation
- Supporting Market uptake with Grid Integration
- Prioritising technology innovations

Upcoming Webinar: P-2-X from E-fuels
Together with ETIP Wind, we are hosting a webinar on power-to-x (P2X) to be held 6th November, from 10:30-12 CET.
The workshop is a mix of panel discussions and presentations which will examine the feasibility of P2X deployment scenarios and the R&D challenges that wind, PV, grids and hydrogen will need to address to make these ambitious plans a reality.
Topics to be covered include:
- The feasibility and future of P2X in the context of a push today towards greater direct use of electricity
- How suppliers of equipment for P2X are reacting to the climate targets and 2040 scenarios
- How hydrogen will be used for P2X, particularly in e-fuels
- The biggest technical challenges facing designers of the future EU electricity system
The agenda can be found here (P2X Agenda) .
