press release - A revamped Technology Platform to accelerate the Energy Transformation! - March 2016
In September 2015 the European Commission presented a new Integrated Strategic
Energy Technology (SET) Plan in order to accelerate the transformation of the European
energy system.
With a view to achieve a more holistic approach, the new SET Plan focuses now on 10
actions structured around the research and innovation priorities of the so-cal ed Energy
Union strategy. Similarly, the SET Plan Integrated Roadmap presented in 2014 wil now be
adjusted to this new approach. As a first and very concrete step, the European
Commission and the European Technology Platform agreed on an Issue Paper which
presents high-level R&D&I priorities for the solar PV sector with a view to make Europe the
world number one in renewables.
The redefinition of the scope of the SET Plan was accompanied by the wish to set up new
governance structures in order to further steer the cooperation between Member States,
industry and the research community. In order to do so, the Solar European Industry
Initiative (SEII) and the European Photovoltaic Technology Platform have been merged
into a new European and Technology Innovation Platform (ETIP) which became
operational in January 2016.
Elections for the partial renewal of the Steering Committee of the ETIP wil be organised in
the coming weeks.
